New Jewelry Projects - Production Steps

Jewelry Prototyping & Development

Once designs have been completed these procedures outline the production process. Designs can be submitted to us by e-mail, web form, or via regular mail.

The following is the standard production process for the development of a new commercial product:

  1. Silver Prototype: When we receive detailed descriptions of a project we will be able to put together a quote for a silver prototype of your design. For any designs requiring custom made cast components, prototyping must be done in silver regardless of the target finished material. IE: If your production is an 18K Gold Ring with pave set diamonds, the first model produced will be in Silver with CZ. This saves you from paying for gold models that may require further modification.

  2. Unit Prices: If your production will be in Gold, at the time of quotation we will provide a very rough estimate for the project in gold. Generally, unit prices given in a quotation will remain fairly accurate as they are given at production rates and will only change due to market fluctuations. Prototyping costs are listed as an additional expense which includes development related costs like waxes, resins, masters, and molds applicable only to the first piece of a given style. A typical prototyping fee will range from 100 to 300 dollars.

  3. Prototype Payment: We will collect payment for the prototype and begin production. Payments for prototypes are always made up front in full and may be made by TT, Credit Card, or Cashiers Check.

  4. Prototype Delivery: We will send the prototype to you via express mail service so that you may examine our workmanship and make changes to the design. Certain changes may incur additional fees depending on the amount of work required to apply the changes.

Jewerly Productions

  1. Production Quote: Along with the prototype, we will provide you with a production quote for your piece in your metal of choice. Please note that our quotes and invoices are time sensitive as they are based around a certain market price for gold and silver. Because gold prices fluctuate all the time, you can expect that the price of your piece will fluctuate over time as well.
  2. Production Order: Customer fills out a purchase order with product specifications and requested terms and delivery timeframes. We will send an invoice to be signed and returned to us along with a production deposit.
  3. Production Payment: On receipt of a production deposit we will begin production of the final order.

Production Timeframes

  • Design Stage (If Applicable): Usually less then two weeks unless many designs are involved.
  • Prototyping Stage: This is the longest and most difficult stage of development. Typically it will take between 2 and 6 weeks to come out with the first prototype. With most designs we are able to produce an initial prototype within 3 weeks. If changes must be made at this point another 1 to 3 weeks may be necessary.
  • Production: Most productions of fewer than 1000 pieces can be completed within a 4-6 week period. Actual timeframes for your project will be evaluated during the prototyping stage.
